5 Best habs trades in my Opinion

Image
2020 has been a horrendous year for many of us. Hopefully the vaccines coming in 2021 will erase  this miserable year from our memory banks...anyways back to hockey There has been some talk about the five best trades in Canadiens history. Canadiens' history include a myriad of cups and a myriad of hall of famers. Nope the Weber or the Danault trade are not even in the top ten using any objective measure. Of course if any championships happen in the following years led by Weber and/or Danault there could be a revision of this list. Some of the criteria that should be used is whether there was a marked improvement with the team after the trade and did it lead to playoff or championship success.  We should also consider how lopsided the trade was. The Frank Mahovlich trade was a great trade for the habs and he did win 2 Cups with the habs. However, the red wings received Mickey Redmond in the exchange and Redmond scored 50 goals twice for the wings. The wings also received Guy

The 2006 World Cup in retrospect

Well isn’t life a drag these days. It is insane when you reflect on what has happened in the last  few months. This is a real life horror movie we are all living. As with most people, I am using all this isolation time to watch things on TV I never had time for. In 2006, I really thought my Azzurris had a chance to win the world cup. They had played some friendlies prior to the world cup against Germany and the Netherlands where they dominated the games and won easily. I  was optimistic enough about the azzurri chances to tape all their games. I finally had the time to rewatch them all after 14 long years.  The Azzurri had been controversially eliminated in many of the recent tournaments prior to 2006. In Euro 2000, Totti’s coming out party ended unceremoniously. The azzurri were leading in the final game against France until an extra time goal by France tied it and France  eventually won it on a golden goal in overtime. In World Cup 2002, the azzurri were eliminated by South K

Anatomy of a Losing Season

Well only those wearing rose coloured glasses believe the habs have a chance of making the playoffs. So what happened? I think most people can see the two 8 game losing streaks created most of the mess that eliminated the habs from the playoff race. Another reason could be linked to the anemic performance against eastern team wannabes New Jersey and Detroit. First, if we review those six games against the wings and the devils some things become apparent. Goaltending is an issue. One can argue if the habs had a decent back-up goaltender, Price should have probably not played any of those games. However, he did play three of the six games.  He lost all of them. His save percentage was a poor .887 average for those games.  Kinkaid played one game against his old team and had a save percentage of .907 but he lost that game. Charles Lindgren played two games and even though he won one of the games in a shootout his save percentage for those two games was .850. Surprisingly the t
