Predictions are for gypsies

Image
Well it is almost October, wine season, the leaves turn red, and of course the start of a brand new NHL season. Here are my second annual wild and crazy predictions for this year: 1) Sydney Crosby will exceed his highest point total in a season. His record  is 120 points. He will be playing stress free now that he has won as many cups as Mario.  2) Stamkos will win the Maurice Richard trophy now that he has signed long-term. If not him then it might be Milan Lucic! 3) Conner Mcdavid Jonathan Drouin and Johnny Gaudreau will get 100 points. Should be fun  watching them deke and dangle their way around the defence. 4) Victor Hedman or PK Subban will win the Norris. Unlike in Montreal when PK would make an error, in Nashville Roman Josi has the speed to recover and cover up. 5) Boston Philadelphia Detroit and Toronto will not make the playoffs. The axis of evil foiled again. 6) Tampa Bay will win the Stanley Cup defeatin...

Mid season habs report

Image
Well I am relatively pleased with the Habs at mid-season over-all. However, since we are discussing a team there are always positives and negatives. My impressions: Michel Therrien- I think he has done a very good job considering the talent level on the team. He still has no first line center. He still has no rugged defencemen other than Douglas Murray. However, there are questionable decisions he makes. His lack off faith in young players like Galchenyuk and the likes of Tinordi, Bournival, and Beaulieu have retarded their progress. Not to say he is all to blame, if they had put on a better performance they may have forced Therrien's hand. As well, his stubbornness has led to Bouillon being overplayed as well as others like Gionta and Bourque. The lacklustre performance by the Habs in the last few games has me concerned. Therrien is more there for motivation and the troops don't seem motivated. His assistants Gerald Galllant and JJ Daigneault are there for strategy. Not su...

Memo to Geoff Molson

Mr. Molson : I have written this blog to discuss my blueprint for the Habs future. Since this is a forward-looking statement, several hypotheses will be elaborated upon without any documentary evidence. I can unequivocally state that we have had a dismal year caused by the recessionary actions of Jacques Martin and Pierre Gauthier. Therefore, we must look to the future, and since we will be distributors of excess surplus before the trade deadline, the financial considerations of which assets we will divest and what should be the asking price is of primary importance? However,  before my exhaustive analysis of the trade possibilities let us discuss some past achievements by  the company and its cup winning managers. History The legendary Sam Pollock did not have an unblemished record as a General Manager. He traded Red Berenson for Garry Peters and Ted Taylor. What, are you kidding? He traded Danny Gran...
