The Bell Center Curse

When I was a kid I truly believed if I was sick the habs would lose. I am not saying that it was true but.... As well, if my mom entered the room as the habs were playing and she would comment on the game inevitably the opposition would score on the habs. She was incredulous you actually think i made the opposition score as I would fume watching the opposing players celebrating.

Nah I don't believe in that anymore (fingers crossed). Recently after the Parros incident there has been much talk about the Bell Center curse. The list is long about near death incidents during

the habs stint at the Bell Center Saku, Mcleary, Zednik, Pacioretty, Eller, Geoffrion, and now Parros. Saku, of course, was not clobbered by a hit but an illness, but he did almost lose an eye in another incident. What about Markov and all those knee issues? So is the Bell Center populated by opposition ghosts keeping away the Rocket, Plante, and Harvey? Is Eddie Shore swinging his stick at Rocket's ghost? Is Doug Harvey being deked out by Milt Schmidt's ghost? Is Rick Martin blasting a shot by Plante's ghost?

Well if you look at it on a comparative basis the habs have not done so badly. They have not lost any player in the prime of their career like the Bruins with Marc Savard. They did not lose any franchise players like Pat Lafontaine or Kevin Primeau to recurring injuries. They didn't lose any bona-fide superstars like Paul Kariya or Eric Lindros. Future hall of famers did not retire prematurely like Scott Stevens.

Other teams have suffered grisly injuries in the past. Anyone remember Clint Malarchuk and the skate blade? How about Bryan Berard losing an eye in a freak accident? Phil Kessel had testicular cancer. In other words these things happen. Some will blame the bigger players in the league but if you go way back in the past there were similar incidents involving others. Pierre Mondou was blinded at the old Forum. Lou Fontinato suffered a broken neck at the old forum as well.

Anyways everybody knows if I had a good day at work the habs will win...
