Wrong again

Okay I know I know I was a little off in my NHL predictions. Ahem I posted the following predictions in October. Here are my excuses:

1) Sydney Crosby will exceed his highest point total in a season. His record is 120 points. He will be playing stress free now that he has won as many cups as Mario.

Well he was not close but Sid had a great year anyways. His early season concussion did not help. Second, he really has mediocre linemates that stifle his assist totals. He took matters in his own hands this year and won the Maurice Richard trophy for most goals. Other reasons are the injury to Kris Letang and to Malkin. The Penguins will not win the cup either because of Letang's injury.

2) Stamkos will win the Maurice Richard trophy now that he has signed long-term. If not him then it might be Milan Lucic!

Well, luckily I did say my predictions could collapse due to injury. I was wrong about Lucic because Maroon seems to have more chemistry with Mcdavid.

3) Conner Mcdavid, Jonathan Drouin, and Johnny Gaudreau will get 100 points. Should be fun watching them deke and dangle their way around the defence.

One out of three ain't bad. Actually it is except for baseball as .333 is a great batting average.  Drouin is the most disappointing of the three even though he had his moments. Only the moments tend to be sporadic at best. Gaudreau had a slow start and then was injured. However, I now have doubts he is the dominant player I thought he was. What to say of Mcjesus? Clearly the NHL is still in the dead puck era but I sure hope he starts getting close to the goal scoring tallies of the 80's and 90's.

4) Victor Hedman or PK Subban will win the Norris. Unlike in Montreal when PK would make an error, in Nashville Roman Josi has the speed to recover and cover up.

Well not this year for either one. Hedman had another good year. However the poor play of Tampa and the injury to Stamkos left Hedman alone as the leader of the team. As for PK, a very average year. I am surprised he has not jelled as quick as I thought he would with his new mates. I forgot that PK's play and personality takes a little time to get used to.

5) Boston, Philadelphia, Detroit, and Toronto will not make the playoffs. The axis of evil foiled again.

Two members of the axis of evil are in. As Donald Trump would say it is in our national interest that the axis is stopped in the first round.

6) Tampa Bay will win the Stanley Cup defeating the Predators. It is destiny.

Well destiny decided that Stamkos would be injured so there went Tampa's chances. As for the Predators a very inconsistent season. Still not sure they have the offence or the goaltending to go far in playoffs.

7) Habs will trade Markov and Plekanec and Emelin at deadline for nobody in particular. This is Bergy's standard policy unless he re-signs them for two more years.

Nope they kept them for another year. This may be the final year for Plekanec and Emelin. The only chance that they stay is if they have a spectacular playoffs.

8) Patrick Laine wins the calder. He is the next goal scoring phenom because I deem it so.

Laine will not win the calder. Injuries played a part in this as well. The concussion he suffered made him miss games and left him ineffective for several games when he came back. All the credit to Matthews who had an incredible year. While Laine may still be the next Kurri or Selanne, Matthews may be the next Esposito or Hull.

9) Pacioretty and/or Beaulieu will be traded in a multi-player blockbuster. Or maybe not...

Well Pacs had a great year and will not be traded anytime soon. As for Beaulieu his constant brain farts may lead to a trade in the offseason. His playoff performance will decide his fate.

10) Hillary defeats the Donald ( or start thinking of the nuclear age)

Start thinking of the nuclear age bombs away.

Anyways I am not a gypsy. So there.

And now to look in the refurbished crystal ball for the playoffs.  The habs could win a round or two. Beware of Columbus if they beat the penguins. The Leafs and Bruins will be done after round one. It should be Chicago and Washington in the final. A wilder final would be Columbus versus Calgary. As Geoff Molson would say God bless the Habs and may the torch and ghosts of past glory be with them.
